Therapy Sessions
Therapy is a process that takes you through the journey of healing and enhances your insight and understanding about the self. It is important to know that confidentiality is a basic requirement of therapy. Therapy is varied and conducted in an individual, family, couple, or group setting, and can help both children, adolescents and adults. It is important to understand this is not a prescriptive process. Sessions are typically held once a week for about 45 to 50. This is a collaborative process, both the patient and therapist need to be actively involved in psychotherapy.
As I’ve noted that it’s not a prescriptive process. Thus, it can be short-term (a few sessions), dealing with immediate issues, or long-term (months or years), dealing with longstanding and complex issues. The goals of treatment and arrangements for how often and how long to meet are planned jointly by the patient and therapist.
What are the Benefits of Individual Therapy?
Individual therapy is an effective treatment for many types of mental, emotional and behavioral health issues. But, it can also help people who are facing difficult life situations, or would like to develop healthier, more functional personal habits.
Therapy sessions can provide these seven types of benefits and more:
- Adding to your support network
- Gaining a better understanding of yourself
- Learning how to handle emotions
- Identifying underlying causes of symptoms
- Providing coping strategies
- Managing symptoms
- Facilitating lifestyle changes
It’s a very important that I encourage people to consider as lifestyle.

How does Individual Therapy Work?
This is a professional conversation between me and you. It is a process that is guided by compassion, empathy and understanding without feeling judged. In these therapy sessions you are given the opportunity to confidentially talk through problems or situations that are causing distress in your life. It does not necessarily make problems disappear, but it equips individuals with the tools needed to cope with them more appropriately.
Couples Therapy
This a space where couples gave the time to explore factors that disrupt the nature of their romantic relationship. Ideally, couples therapy is a mode of treatment that aims to enhance to enhance the connection between two adults engaged in a long-term relationship. Couples may benefit from therapy if: They would like to increase their intimacy, improve their sexual satisfaction, or develop more romance in their relationship.
Family Therapy
A type of psychotherapy designed to identify family patterns that contribute to a behavior disorder or mental illness and help family members break those habits. Family therapy involves discussion and problem-solving sessions with the family.
Queer Affirmative Therapy
While there has been significant progress in the last few years, the LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual) community still struggles to find acceptance in mainstream society. This means that while people who identify as LGBTQIA+ may seek therapy for the same reasons as everyone else – such as depression, anxiety, substance abuse, or the ending of a relationship – they also have an added set of unique needs and challenges. In addition to other concerns, they have a layer of stress owing to society’s perception of and reaction to their sexual orientation and gender identity. Beyond being afraid of judgment and discrimination, they may also struggle with coming to terms with their gender or sexual identity and/or may experience discomfort with their own body along with internalised homophobia or transphobia.
What is Affirmative Therapy?
Affirmative therapy understands that a person’s sexual orientation and gender identity cannot be changed and that it is not the root cause of their problems. Instead, it respects and regards all sexualities and genders positively, and provides an affirming space for its clients in several different ways.
